Is is the time of year where we appeal to you to extend your goodwill and love to vulnerable animals who find themselves completely at our mercy.
The sad truth is, the cost of living for us, is the cost of life for many animals.
This is why:
- Vet and medicine cost continues to increase. Medicines produced in Europe have gone up by 30%.
- 56% of UK adults say they are not able to meet the costs of unexpected vet bills.
- 99% of vets are being asked to euthanise healthy pets.
WE need to step up and help them, because right now YOU are their only answer.
- 97% of grant funders excluded animal rescue providers from applying for aid for animals.
- The Government doesn’t fund aid for animals needing rescue services.
We find ourselves in an unprecedented pet overpopulation crisis.
With less new homes available, at a time when pet care costs are beyond most people’s means, and with more animals abandoned, the pressure for rescue space is immense. As always, it is down to us to take action!
Please enable us to:
- Give them safety, warmth, shelter and love
- Give them compassion and gentle encouragement
- Give them freedom from pain and fear
- Give them new hope
- Give a voice to the voiceless, to stop this happening to others in the future
Whatever problems we face, you are the answer. Because when you are here for us, we can be here for them.

Help animals like Pumpkin & Roxanne, who had no where else to turn…
Roxanne
We were alerted to Roxanne’s condition after a concerned member of the public posted on social media.”
We were able to bring her in along with 3 more cats, all flea and worm riddled. One had a hernia, and another was heavily pregnant and gave birth in foster just days after the rescue.”
The sight of poor Roxanne was especially distressing. Most of her fur was missing from fleas infestation, she had scabs and scars from being pursued by unneutered male cats, and had many years of having uncontrolled litters of kittens.
Worse still, she had just given birth and was attempting to feed eight new-borns while hanging onto life herself. She was completely emaciated. Our vet said she had used all her fat reserve layers and was literally draining the last of her body to keep feeding her kittens. Had she not been saved, she wouldn’t have survived much longer.
They are all now safe.
Many animals like Roxanne are at risk every day. The cost of living for us is the cost of life for some animals.
Just 3% of rescue funding comes from grants, 97% comes from people like you – YOU are their only answer. Without you rescue is simply not possible. Please give what you can. https://www.freshfields.org.uk/theonlyanswer
Every £1 you donate between 28th November and the 5th December will be matched by our match funders. One donation twice the impact.
Pumpkin
Terrified and in very poor condition this little pup was spotted wandering aimlessly in a pumpkin field. He had a head injury and injuries to his abdomen. He was very thin, covered in scabs and bruises. No wonder he hid away when we tried to help him.
It was heartbreaking to see this pup suffer, clearly he had only experienced the worst of people. With gentleness, patience and the medical treatment he needed, he began to recover. In foster, his health improved and his confidence grew. We called him Pumpkin. He became less nervous and slowly began to trust again. His wonderful personality started to show.
After 8 months of recovery Pumpkin was well enough to be rehomed and was happily adopted. He is healthy, cherished, safe, and very loved.
Only because of you, his life was transformed. You were Pumpkins answer.
Sadly there are many more dogs like Pumpkin at risk, We are under more pressure than ever right now. Please donate what you can https://www.freshfields.org.uk/theonlyanswer
Willow
Willow was admitted with 4 other horses and ponies in April. Unfortunately, all were in poor condition, having not seen a dentist or a farrier for years. One pony was completely feral and had not even been handled before.
Willow’s eye was an immediate concern to us, as it looked to have ruptured. Her owner advised that years ago she had a blackthorn in her eye, but as it had never seemed to be bothering her it hadn’t been checked out.
We got our vet to look at it and they were in no doubt that Willow would have been in pain. The only option was to remove her eye, to ensure she was pain-free.
Having lived without sight in her ruptured eye for years, living with one eye was nothing new for Willow. She took the surgery in her stride, and even removed her own bandage! Following the surgery there was an instant change in Willow, she was calmer and happier to be handled.
After lots of extra care and monitoring, Willow’s stitches were removed. The vet was then happy for her to be introduced to our horses and ponies, where she could run around, pain-free. As Willow only has one eye, this hinders her chances of being homed on loan, but in the meantime, she is safe and loved with us.
Willow’s surgery was only possible because of you. Your support provided the veterinary care she needed to live pain-free. You have transformed her life. Every donation makes a difference to horses like Willow who are facing a future of pain or illness, or perhaps no future at all.
Kiki
Kiki was in a terrible state when she arrived at Freshfields, with the most severe allergies we had ever seen. Desperately tearing her skin to pieces because she was in agony.
With the assistance of our excellent on-site vet, we put together a plan to identify the cause, but it proved more complicated than we first thought. After treating some symptoms but not getting to the root cause, we tried Atopica, a treatment for chronic allergic dermatitis, a skin condition caused by the immune system’s response to allergens. The results were amazing, we can’t believe the difference!
Kiki will need Atopica for life to manage her condition and maintain her health, but she’s now a healthy, contented and affectionate cat.
None of this would have been possible without expert, high-quality veterinary treatment….given to Kiki by YOU!
Vet and medicine costs continue to increase. Medicines produced in Europe have gone up by 30%. We need to step up and help animals like Kiki because right now you are their only answer.
