Hugh Baird College student named Sefton’s Learner of the Year

Hugh Baird College is proud to announce Andrew Moore as the recipient of the Sefton Adult and Community Skills Learner of the Year Award for 2024, presented at the recent Liverpool City Region Adult Skills and Community Awards.

Nominated by Maya Gallagher, Lecturer in Health and Social Care at Hugh Baird College, Maya remarked “Andrew’s journey exemplifies resilience and dedication.”

“Andrew’s path through the Hugh Baird College and NHS Pre-Apprenticeship Programme showcases his remarkable perseverance in the face of learning challenges and low confidence. His commitment to understanding and completing tasks, even when they were difficult, has been inspiring. Over time, he has significantly built his skills and confidence, particularly in using digital tools essential for the modern workplace.”

Thanks to his success in the NHS Pre-Apprenticeship programme, Andrew has launched a rewarding career as a Healthcare Assistant at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, making a positive impact on the lives of others.

“It is an incredible honour to receive this award,” said Andrew. “I faced many challenges along the way, but the support from my tutors and the opportunities at Hugh Baird College have been invaluable. I hope my story can inspire others who may be struggling to believe in themselves.”

The Liverpool City Region Adult Skills and Community Awards celebrated the achievements of adult learners across the region, highlighting the transformative power of education in personal and professional growth.
