Liverpool Chamber of Commerce CIC is seeking to appoint a new Chair of the Board at the conclusion of the current Chair’s final year in office in October 2022. The new Chair will help drive the ongoing modernisation of the Chamber as a vibrant and energised business representative organisation.
The Liverpool Chamber connects businesses across the City Region – to a local business community, national conversation and international trade network
About us
We add value to businesses by tackling the issues our members face; articulating their challenges and finding solutions by connecting the dots. As a credible, trusted partner for business, we’ve become the go-to place for support, signposting and authentic insights.
We’re here to distil policy and translate the business agenda – from Covid-19 recovery and inward investment, to net zero and skills – into tangible support. And we campaign and advocate on behalf of the businesses we represent, listening to them, articulating their hopes and challenges and finding solutions.
With unparalleled knowledge sharing, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce is cultivating business communities. At round tables, masterclasses and through peer to peer engagement, the Chamber connects members with inspiring voices, the thought-leaders shaping the future world of work and the opinion formers shaping our city.
Regionally, the Chamber delivers international trade expertise – stimulating export growth for our businesses and helping drive investment into the city. Through the Quarterly Economic Survey it provides the most comprehensive and respected insight into business sentiment in the region and across the UK.
The Chamber has 16 FTE employees and turnover is approximately £1.1m with revenue generated through membership subscriptions, export documentation and trade support services and publicly funded business support provision.
Role Requirements
The role of Chair is an important leadership position, which ensures the conditions are created for overall board and individual director effectiveness, whilst providing the CEO and management team with a good balance of support and challenge in efforts to deliver the objectives of the business.
The new Chair is envisaged to be an external appointment who will be a strategic thinker and will ensure the Directors are reinforcing the Chamber’s commitment to continuous improvement, development and transformation as the business environment evolves, whilst remaining focussed on the Chamber’s core purpose as the trusted, authentic voice of business in the City.
The role of the Chamber requires strong leadership and, in the role of Chair, an understanding and appreciation of the Liverpool City Region and the existing ecosystem of organisations and networks within the area.
The Chair will be expected to lead the Board in the pursuit of the Chamber’s objectives within its Strategic Plan and ensure it remains relevant to its business members, responsive to the needs and demands of the city’s businesses and focussed upon the management of risk whilst also leading the Chamber into a new era of change and transformation.
A background in business ownership, leadership or related activities relevant to business would be particularly suitable for the role and we would welcome applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Remuneration & Time Commitment
The position is unremunerated although expenses incurred on behalf of the Chamber are reimbursed. The maximum term of office is for two terms of three years with the role subject to annual approval by the members.
The time commitment envisaged is one to two days per month covering six Board meetings, various committee meetings, one strategy day, as well as voluntary attendance and leadership at several ambassadorial functions throughout the year, including the Chamber’s Annual Dinner/Awards and wider British Chambers events and activities.
